What can I expect from counseling?
Counseling sessions are confidential and individual. I will meet with you one-on-one to discuss whatever struggles you are experiencing. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and take place weekly or bi-weekly. If you’re a working professional or have children, therapy arrangements can conveniently be made before, during lunch breaks, or after school hours. Limited session appointments are also available on weekends.
According to 20/20: A Vision for the Future of Counseling, the delegates comprised of 31 counseling organizations agreed upon a unified definition of counseling:
“Professional counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.” – Learn more HERE
When you meet with me, you will experience someone that listens and is empathetic to your experience. Your needs will be heard and counseling will focus on your personal goals. You’re in control of your sessions; not the therapist. You will not be forced to discuss anything that doesn’t directly relate to what you want to get out of counseling.
After meeting with a counselor, most children report feeling better and more in control of their lives. Many people find counseling successful because it is based on building a relationship between counselor and client that empowers the client to make changes in his or her life.
